Mobile TXT Alerts & Instant Message Alerts

I have configured my tracker scripts to automatically update Twitter feeds whenever specific units come in stock. This means you can receive Mobile/TXT Alerts on your phone!

Please read through this entire page; it explains all the information needed to receive mobile phone and/or instant message alerts.

  1. The ONLY products with Mobile Alerts are: Wii and Wii Fit
  2. The ONLY stores with Mobile Alerts are marked with a Twitter Icon () on either the Wii Tracker page or Wii Fit Tracker page.
  3. Alerts are separate by product, meaning you will only receive Wii alerts if you sign up for Wii alerts and Wii Fit alerts if you only sign up for Wii Fit Alerts. Sign up for both to receive both.

If you know Twitter already, the account/profile names are as follows:

  • Wii Alerts = NowInStock
  • Wii Fit Alerts = NISWiiFit

This alert process via Twitter is only serving a limited number of Wii or Wii Fit stores being tracked, but be assured they are the most popular ones. Again, the ONLY stores that will be sent via Twitter are marked with this icon: ()

Please read all instructions thoroughly to ensure proper delivery of the Mobile In Stock alerts.

Twitter Set Up Instructions:

  1. Signup for a Twitter Account if you do not already have one.
  2. On the "Are your friends on Twitter?" page click "Skip" in the upper right above the numbers.
  3. Inside Twitter, click on "Settings" in the upper right.
  4. Under your screen name, click on "Devices".
  5. Add your mobile phone number and follow the instructions to verify your phone. If you prefer instant messenger updates, select your IM Client, enter your screen name, and verify it as well.
  6. Refresh the "Devices" page ensuring that Notifications are set to "On".
  7. In the upper right, click on "Home".
  8. In the search box at the top, search for "NowInStock" for Wii Alerts OR "NISWiiFit" for Wii Fit Alerts.
  9. Next to the correct profile name and to the far right, click "Follow".
  10. Click "Home" at the top.
  11. Click "Following" on the right hand side column.
  12. Under the correct profile name, ensure Device Updates is set to "On".
  13. That is all!
  14. To verify to be safe: Click "Home" at the top right, click "Following" in the right hand side column. When the screen appears you should see my profile name NowInStock or NISWiiFit, and Device Updates should be set to "On".

Alert Usage:

Now that you are all squared away with Twitter, you should receive alerts to your mobile phone or instant messenger as soon as I notice stock available. Granted, I can not guarantee speed or even success via this system. However, this system has proved super successful for Wii's. Now, when you receive an alert via:

Mobile Phone/TXT Alerts
Head to a computer as quickly as possible, and enter the URL included in TXT alert. This will take you directly to the product that is in stock.

If you are one of the lucky people with an iPhone or other smart phone, you may just have to click on the URL to buy right from your device.

Instant Messenger Alerts
When you receive an alert via your instant messenger client, just click on the tiny URL within the message and you will be taken directly to the store where the product is in stock.

Unsubscribing:

To unsubscribe from alerts, login into your Twitter account and click on "Following". Click remove next to my account name. All done! Simple, hence why I have chosen to use Twitter!

Why Twitter?

I am using Twitter for two reasons. One, they have the capacity and infrastructure to push mobile and instant message alerts to many people at once. Secondly, it gives users unprecedented control of the alerts. It is a third-party application that allows users the ability to unsubscribe from my notifications with the click of a button. Hence, the subscriptions are basically managed via Twitter's system, not mine. This puts you the user in control. I feel this is one of the best usages of Twitter out there. Expect more and more people to be doing the same type of thing in the near future.
