In Stock TXT Alert Option Now Available

June 23rd, 2010

I just finished adding a new TXT alert feature to NowInStock.net. You now have the option of receiving TXT alerts in addition to the other alert options. This will work especially good for those of you who have smart phones and can order directly via your mobile browsers. Those that do not have smart phones can still benefit by not having to be in front of your computer all the time checking your emails or browser alerts.

Some VERY important items to note about this alert method:
FEES:
Fees from your mobile carrier will apply. NowInStock.net does NOT charge for this service, but your carrier MAY CHARGE you for each TXT alert. It is your responsibility to know the plan you are using and the fees associated with it.

SUBSCRIBING/UNSUBSCRIBING Alerts:
In order to subscribe or unsubscribe to/from alerts you will need to login to your account and TURN ON/OFF the alerts for each item just as the email alerts do. In order to safeguard your account, newly added items will need to have the TXT alerts option TURN ON before you will receive them. Conversely, all items you no longer want TXT alerted on will need to be TURN OFF from within your account. DO NOT attempt to unsubscribe by responding to TXT alerts with “Remove” or “Stop”, it will NOT work.

BETA TEST:
This is a BETA test. I expect feedback over the next few months to iron out any kinks that may arise. Please take some time and let me know where things are not working properly. I believe everything is working properly, but it would be a gross assumption to assume everything was working properly. As a result, please DO take a minute and visit our contact form to provide some feedback on the system. Good or bad, please let me know.

NON-SHORT CODE METHOD:
Without going into too much detail, typically when you receive or send TXT messages, they are sent via short code format. Short codes are the numbers where you send the message to. Example: “TXT ‘win’ to 123456 for a chance to win a free vacation.” I DO NOT use these short codes. They are way too expensive for me to implement, as a result, I have opted to use TXT messages sent via email.
This means TXT alerts will be sent to [yourNumber]@vtext.com for Verizon users. The last portion is determined when you choose your carrier when signing up. This methodology is not as classy, but does the job in my own personal tests.

Hopefully all kinks will be worked out prior to this holiday season and the TXT alerts will be ready to help all of us score the Microsoft Kinect or what ever else is hot this season.

To sign up for TXT alerts, please login to your account at NowInStock.net. On the left hand side of the page you will see the option to activate TXT alerts. Follow the instructions and you will be receiving TXT alerts in no time.
