Update to Sound Alarms – HTML5 In, Flash Out
We have just updated the “alarm” notification system on NowInStock.net. This is inclusive of the tracker alarms as well as Browser Alerts. The new implementation eliminates the need for Flash replacing it with HTML5 <audio>.
What does this mean?
It means that in order to have the alarms working, you must have an HTML5 based browser where the <audio> tag is supported. The good news is all modern and up-to-date browsers should support this including Internet Explorer 9, Firefox 4, Chrome, Opera, and Safari. Also, all modern an up-to-date mobile browsers should work as well, including Firefox on Android, Browser on Android (2.3.5+), Safari on iOS (3.2+), and Blackberry (6.0+). This new implementation is gentler to processing needs as there is no longer a need for the Flash Player.
I Used to Hear Alarms, But No More… Please Help!
The bad news is for those of you still running legacy browsers. These include any browser prior to the above mentioned working browsers. We could have implement a joint approach to this using Flash for legacy browsers, however, you should be running the latest browsers for security purposes plus the fact that we prefer to make our site quick as possible eliminating any unnecessary scripts such as browser checking. In order to get the alarms working, just make sure to update your browsers to the latest versions available.
If you cannot upgrade to the most recent browser, such as IE9 because you are still running Windows XP, then you should use Google Chrome or Firefox instead. Or,you should check into acquiring a new PC. Review our Deals section.
