Verizons 4 New Phones – iPhone Killer?

October 3rd, 2007

This evening I read over at Mashable about a new phone that Verizon is bringing out called Voyager from LG. They state that an executive at Verizon was calling it the “iPhone killer.” Now, what executive would say that other than the man in charge of these new devices. Obviously there are people leaving Verizon for the iPhone at AT&T. In fact, my friend Rob Schultz just split Verizon a month ago so he could acquire the iPhone. Granted he is a Mac geek, but at least I get to see and play with the iPhone. Thanks Rob!

And that brings me to my next question about this so-called Voyager (pictured on far right). Does it have a full-fledged browser like the iPhone’s Safari? This is by far the best thing about the iPhone from experience with the device. Granted the network sucks under AT&T, but it is almost bearable given the end experience. Still not worth the bucks or dropped calls, but get it on Verizon and I would already own one. If the Voyager lacks this one simple feature, it is already dead. There are already plenty of devices on the market for email, music, and other crap. We need mobile web browsing and the iPhone does it very well even with lackluster data connections.

A Few Side Notes:

  • The best thing I have seen since the release of the iPhone is the Blackberry Curve over on T-Mobile. Wi-Fi and mobile calling! That is what I like to hear.
  • Also, I can’t wait till next year whenever Sprint releases it’s WiMax network called Xohm. 4Mb data streams over a 10 mile radius.
  • What about Google and their soon bid on the 700 MHz spectrum? This is my most highly anticipated event. Will they make a bid?

Mobile is hot on both the device and service ends. Until both ends improve, mobile = phone calls & texting… nothing else.
